Coffee Origins MOC¶
Coffee is cultivated in the tropical band known as the Bean Belt, spanning approximately 25°N to 25°S, where altitude, rainfall, temperature, and soil conditions support Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora. Origin is one of three fundamental pillars of coffee identity alongside variety and processing, expressed through the interactions of altitude, soil, climate, and regional cultivation traditions — collectively known as terroir. This MOC maps origin knowledge from the broad geography of the Bean Belt through continental, country, and sub-regional terroir profiles, covering both the conceptual framework for understanding how place shapes the cup and the practical links to country and region-level articles.
