Overview

Roast profiling is the practice of designing and documenting the temperature-time curve of a coffee roast, including rate-of-rise (ROR), first crack timing, development time, and end temperature. Modern specialty roasteries use software such as Cropster or Artisan to record and reproduce profiles, enabling batch-to-batch consistency and systematic quality improvement. A well-developed roast profile balances the drying, Maillard, and development phases to express the inherent character of each specific green coffee origin and processing style.
