Overview¶
The US East Coast specialty coffee scene spans major cities including Boston — where George Howell's Coffee Connection (founded 1975) was among the earliest American specialty pioneers — through New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Atlanta. Counter Culture Coffee, based in Durham, North Carolina, has served as a foundational wholesale and education partner for a large proportion of the region's independent cafés, helping to raise standards and spread specialty knowledge across the eastern seaboard.
