Overview¶
New York City hosts one of the most competitive specialty coffee markets in the world, characterised by high café density, a demanding and diverse consumer base, and an openness to international coffee cultures. The city's specialty scene was significantly shaped by the arrival of Intelligentsia, Counter Culture, Joe Coffee, and Stumptown, each establishing flagship locations that raised consumer expectations; independent roasters and cafés subsequently proliferated across the five boroughs.
