Overview¶
Costa Rica is recognised as a leader in specialty coffee innovation in Central America, with a strong micro-mill movement — sometimes called the "third wave of Costa Rican coffee" — allowing individual farms to process their own coffee and sell direct to specialty buyers rather than through centralised processing cooperatives. Regions such as Tarrazú, Naranjo, and the West Valley produce internationally respected micro-lots, with honey and natural processing innovations alongside traditional washed methods drawing consistent attention from specialty roasters worldwide.
