Overview

Traceability in specialty coffee refers to the ability to track a coffee lot back through the supply chain to its producing farm or cooperative, processing station, and harvest season. Full traceability — disclosed on packaging or roastery websites — is a defining feature of the specialty model, contrasting with commodity coffee where lots from multiple farms and regions are combined anonymously. It enables quality accountability, supports producer recognition, and provides consumers with meaningful information about the coffee they purchase.
