World Barista Championship MOC¶
The World Barista Championship (WBC) is the premier international barista competition, founded in Monte Carlo in 2000 and held annually at the Specialty Coffee Expo or World of Coffee event. Competitors present a 15-minute performance of four espressos, four milk-based drinks, and four signature beverages to a panel of technical and sensory judges, with winners judged on extraction precision, sensory quality, and originality. The WBC has served as a global platform for advancing espresso technique and elevating specialty coffee culture, with champion presentations — from James Hoffmann's 2007 geisha to Sasa Sestic's 2015 carbonic maceration — frequently influencing industry-wide practice. This MOC covers the championship's history, notable champions, and the competition standards that govern it.
