Overview

Roasting software captures and visualises real-time temperature data from coffee roasters, enabling roasters to log, reproduce, and analyse roast profiles across batches. The two dominant platforms in specialty coffee are Cropster — cloud-based, subscription-based, and widely used in commercial roasteries — and Artisan, an open-source alternative popular with home and small-batch roasters; both display bean mass temperature and rate of rise curves in real time and archive profiles for batch-to-batch comparison. The adoption of roasting software from the 2010s onward transformed roast profiling from an artisanal skill into a data-driven discipline, accelerating quality improvement across the specialty sector.
