Overview¶
Grind-by-weight technology refers to espresso grinders equipped with integrated load cells that stop grinding when a target dose weight is reached, eliminating the timing-based dosing variability of conventional grinders. Pioneered commercially by Mahlkönig's E65S GBW and subsequently adopted across multiple manufacturers, grind-by-weight systems reduce shot-to-shot dose variance from ±0.5 g to ±0.1 g — a significant improvement in espresso consistency relevant both to high-volume café workflow and precision home brewing. The technology represents a broader trend toward gravimetric and data-driven precision in specialty espresso preparation.
