Overview¶
The coffee-to-water ratio is the proportion of ground coffee to water used in brewing, expressed as a mass ratio (e.g., 1:15 meaning 1 g of coffee per 15 g of water). The SCA's recommended filter brewing ratio is 1:15 to 1:17; espresso typically uses 1:2 to 1:3. Ratio is one of the primary variables controlling brew strength and extraction yield.
