Overview¶
Brazil, the world's largest coffee producer and the dominant source of Arabica globally, has invested significantly in specialty coffee development since the 1990s, co-founding the Cup of Excellence programme in 1999 to identify and reward outstanding lots. A substantial domestic specialty culture has grown alongside export-focused quality development; Brazilian coffees, while typically lower-altitude than East African origins, can achieve specialty-grade scores and are prized for distinctive chocolate, nutty, and caramel profiles that suit milk-based drinks.
