Overview¶
Tasting notes are descriptive language used to communicate a coffee's sensory characteristics — referencing fruits, florals, confectionery, spices, or other recognisable sensory anchors (e.g., "jasmine, bergamot, peach") rather than abstract scores. The SCA Flavour Wheel and the World Coffee Research Sensory Lexicon provide standardised vocabulary, but tasting notes on retail bags vary widely in their rigour and scientific grounding. Their primary function is to help consumers form flavour expectations and to signal the positioning and character of a coffee to an informed buyer.
