Overview¶
The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) was founded in 1982 by Erna Knutsen, Ted Lingle, Don Schoenholt, and others, establishing the first trade association dedicated to defining and promoting specialty coffee quality standards. The SCAA created the cupping protocols, green coffee grading standards, and brewing standards that became the global reference points for specialty quality, before merging with the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) to form the unified SCA in 2017.
