Overview

Producer-led brands are coffee labels and marketing identities controlled by the producing farm or cooperative rather than an importing roaster, representing a shift in the power dynamics of specialty coffee where producers capture more of the value chain by building brand recognition directly with roasters and consumers. Examples include Hacienda La Esmeralda's Best of Panama positioning and various Ethiopian cooperative brands, and the model is considered a meaningful step toward greater equity in the supply chain.
