Overview

Gender equity in coffee addresses the significant gender imbalances that exist throughout the supply chain — women perform the majority of coffee labour at farm level (harvesting, sorting) but are underrepresented in ownership, leadership, and financial benefit. At the consumer end, the specialty barista and roasting professions were historically male-dominated, though this has changed significantly, symbolised by Agnieszka Rojewska's 2018 World Barista Championship win as the first female champion.
