Overview

The San Francisco Bay Area is the historical centre of American specialty coffee, anchored by Alfred Peet's founding of Peet's Coffee in Berkeley in 1966 — an event widely credited with inspiring the original Starbucks founders — and the later establishment of Blue Bottle Coffee in Oakland in 2002 and Ritual Coffee Roasters.
