Overview

Japan has contributed foundational manual brewing methods to global specialty coffee, including the Hario V60 pour-over, the Kalita Wave, siphon (vacuum pot) brewing, and the Tetsu Kasuya 4:6 Method — all developed or refined within the kissaten tradition of precision and ritual. These methods spread internationally through the third-wave movement, prized for their ability to highlight the nuanced flavour characteristics of high-quality single-origin coffees. Japanese equipment manufacturers Hario and Kalita became globally recognised brands as a result.
