Overview

Kenya is regarded as producing some of the world's most distinctive specialty coffees, characterised by intense blackcurrant, tomato-like acidity, full body, and complex flavour — largely attributable to the SL28 and SL34 varieties, high altitudes in counties such as Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Murang'a, and the double-wash processing method. Kenya's weekly auction system, operated by the Nairobi Coffee Exchange, is the primary price-discovery mechanism for Kenyan lots. These structural and varietal factors combine to produce a cup profile that is immediately recognisable and consistently sought after by specialty roasters globally.
